Pacific Rim Sculptors in partnership with Levy Art + Architecture presents “Room for Thought”, a juried exhibition of contemporary sculpture by artists living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Art objects usually draw attention to their presence, yet it is often the space surrounding an artwork or the negative spaces within it that are most meaningful for contemplation. These spaces affect our thoughts, emotions, and behavior to give the art-and-space deeply personal meaning. Such artworks may create an emotional impact on  viewers in the surrounding space:  perhaps silent reverie, or perhaps giddy, joyful interaction. Or the artworks may skillfully use negative space to achieve a sense of balance or dynamic imbalance, or play with viewers' expectations of order and structure.

The show asked Bay Area sculptors to contemplate how they interpreted "Room for Thought" and to submit pieces that resonated with the theme.

Juror for the exhibition is Jack Fischer of Jack Fischer Gallery (www.jackfischergallery.com) in San Francisco, CA.

The exhibition venue is SPACE 151, a relatively new, large and versatile space of Levy Art + Architecture, with multiple rooms and tall ceilings. Perfectly suited for an exhibition of small works, large works, installations, pedestal pieces, floor-standing pieces, wall pieces, projections and more, SPACE 151 is located at 151 Potrero Avenue in San Francisco, near Jack Fischer Gallery, Catharine Clarke Gallery, Hosfelt Gallery, Patricia Sweetow Gallery, and more in the thriving new arts area in San Francisco's Mission District.

Pacific Rim Sculptors (www.pacrimsculptors.org) is one of three Chapters of the International Sculpture Center (www.sculpture.org), publishers of Sculpture magazine.

Ross Levy, principal at Levy Art + Architecture, is providing an award of one-year membership to Pacific Rim Sculptors and to the International Sculpture Center for the artist whose work is selected as best of show.
