SCULPTURE NOW

Works by Pacific Rim Sculptors

CALL FOR ENTRY:

The Peninsula Museum of Art invited members of Pacific Rim Sculptors to submit entries for Sculpture Now: Works by Pacific Rim Sculptors

Sculptors were invited to submit works in any media that focus on the serious social or environmental issues currently challenging our country and planet. The news is filled with humanitarian crises. Scientists tell us earth's resources are being mismanaged: pollutants damage our atmosphere to the point of extreme climate change, fires, crop failures; insecticides and industrial wastes poison our land and waterways; and discarded plastic chokes our oceans and kills already over-fished marine life. Scarce resources lead to strife. Borders close to desperate, asylum-seeking refugees and children are torn from their parents. Sexual predation and brutal hate crimes are ignored. Abusive language and disregard for truth supplant rational social discourse, impeding even the search for solutions. In these times of unprecedented and rapid change, artists' voices need to be heard more than ever.

JUROR:

Brigitte Micmacker, Owner, Sculpturesite Gallery (previously A New Leaf Gallery). Micmacker has owned and operated galleries for 28 years and counting. A New Leaf existed for 15 years (1990 to 2005) in Berkeley. Sculpturesite operated in San Francisco from 2005 to 2018 and is now an online gallery that also features a sculpture walk in Jack London Square.

VENUE:

Peninsula Museum of Art, 1777 California Dr., Burlingame CA. Sculptor Ruth Waters founded the museum in 2003 and moved it to its current location in Burlingame in 2005. The museum contains five galleries for rotating exhibitions, an art resource library, permanent collection, and adjacent to the museum, a classroom, gift shop, and 29 artists’ working studios, including spaces for sculptors working in wood, stone, bronze, and mixed-media fabrication.
