GIVING TUESDAY IS DECEMBER 3rd

Giving Tuesday (#GivingTuesday) is the first Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving, and is an international day of charitable giving.

PRS dues are kept because simple costs of living are so high in the San Francisco Bay Area. But that means PRS programming depends on donations. So please click here to make a donation; even a small one helps!

If you can afford to donate please offer your volunteer efforts; send an email to your Area Coordinator and offer to help them explore event and exhibition opportunities in their geographic areas. They truly appreciate your help!

SECOND SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT:

Jane Ingram Allen's Paper-making Studio

NOVEMBER SPOTLIGHT:

Jane Ingram Allen, PRS sculptor & arts writer, hosted the November Second Sunday Spotlight at her studio in Santa Rosa, CA. The event began with some time for PRS members to see artworks by several artists in the same studio complex.

Jane then showed a wide-ranging works in her archive.

The variety of Jane's works dispelled any notions that paper-making art is confined to two dimensions.

(continued)

Jane gave a demonstration of sculptural paper-making, from blending of materials, through dipping the moulds and deckles, to "couching" the final sheets and even shaping them into sculptural forms to dry.

Jane then gave participants a chance to try their hand at it. Below, Marguerite Elliot makes paper as Jane instructs.

Jane also spoke about her experiences in multiple international artist-in-residency programs, curating international outdoor environmental sculpture projects, and writing for arts publications, including Sculpture

Viewing Jane's work, hearing about her experiences, and witnessing her generous and informative teaching style was exciting and inspiring for all attending. As we talked over pot-luck dishes and beverages, we shared new-found appreciations of the art of paper-making and realizations that it might easily gain place in our sculpture-making skill sets.

Learn more about Jane and her work by visiting her prior website at www.JaneIngramAllen.com and by visiting her new blog at JaneIngramAllen.wordpress.com.
