Marin:

Peter Keresztury is helping plan a sculpture exhibition for the October 18-20, 2019 Bioneers Conference at the Marin Center in San Rafael. Check out www.bioneers.org to see if the conference might be a good venue for your works. Watch for the call for entries. 

San Francisco:

Dale Eastman & Charles Stinson & colleagues toured San Francisco's Minnesota Street Project in March. This month they will have a return visit to SFMOMA and invite you to join them.

Humboldt County:

Lori Goodman invites interested Northern California (way north) and Humboldt County Sculptors to discuss forming a Humboldt County group with potential affiliation to the Pacific Rim Sculptors (PRS), one of four Chapters of the International Sculpture Center (ISC). Charles Stinson, PRS Board President, will give a presentation and discuss the benefits of joining PRS & ISC.  Please join us at 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 5 at the Redwood Art Association, 603 F Street (corner of F and 6th Streets), Eureka, CA. The PRS Events Committee (chaired by Leith Thrall and co-chaired by Eileen Fitz-Faulkner) is scheduling studio visits and similar activities, rotating among PRS's several areas. SPOTLIGHT:  Stephanie Robison's Studio

The first PRS Second Sunday Spotlight gathering was a well-attended visit to Stephanie Robison's light- and plant-filled studio, loaded with fascinating works, both completed and in progress. 

Stephanie spoke about her works and answered questions about her processes. 

Members enjoyed the presentations, the delicious potluck fare, the entertaining thunder of the day's rainstorm, and . . . 

a side visit to Charles Splady's amazing metal working studio.

NEXT SPOTLIGHT: Oleg Lobykin

 Oleg Lobykin will be the focus of the next PRS Second Sunday Spotlight on Sunday April 14, 2019.

This event will be in two parts, beginning with Oleg's Artist Talk at his Peninsula Museum of Art solo exhibition, then moving to Oleg's studio in East Palo Alto. (These events are for dues-paying and Emeritus members; register to attend via this link.)

Jane Ingram Allen’s latest public art project is an installation in a city park at South Natomas Community Center, Sacramento, CA, created in a three-week artist-in-residency wherein Jane worked with the Natomas Charter School, the Performing and Fine Arts Academy, and the City of Sacramento. The project involved participation of students and community volunteers (image below) to raise awareness about gun violence and initiate dialogue about possibilities for change. Oceana Rain Stuart has works at TRAC 2019, the Representational Art conference, beginning March 31, 2019 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Ventura, CA. Oceana won the second place Alizarin Award for her bronze sculpture “Eternal Bliss” (image left), which will also be in the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art’s International Biennial Portrait Competition in Wausau, WI, April 9 to June 29, 2019. Oceana's “The Guessing Game” and her piece “Reminiscence” were exhibited at the California Art Club's exhibition at the Museum of California Art’s, 108th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition, in Pasadena, CA, from March 2-29. Her work “The Woman from the Mountain” (image below) was exhibited at the Salmagundi Art Club’s juried exhibition Figuratively Speaking in New York, NY. Oceana will present a sculpture demonstration at the Plein Air Convention and Expo, representing the National Sculpture Society at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco from April 24-28, 2019. Marina Smelik’s paperclay sculptures, including "Dangerous Beauty" (image below), will be exhibited in Heated Expressions: Clay and Glass from ACGA at Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont, CA, from March 24th through May 5th, 2019. 

Marina’s ceramic sculpture, “Dressed in Flowers” (image below, 16"H x 9"W x 5"D, ceramics), 

and her ceramic sculpture “When the Body and Soul Blooms" (image below, 15"H x 10"W x 7"D, ceramics) 

were both selected to be in Off Center: Third Annual International Ceramic Art Competition at Blue Line Arts Gallery in Roseville, CA, April 5th - May 18th, 2019.

Zahava Sherez was invited to be a member of The Healing Power of Art community website, which will feature her sculptural series, “InBodied Light” (image below, "Woman 2A, 2019, 20”H x 3”W x 3”D, resin polymer and threads). Also, Zahava’s paintings will be in the show Painted Poems: Two Artists Inspired by Poetry with painter Adriana Diaz at ACCI Gallery in Berkeley, CA, April 1-30, 2019, with opening reception 5-8 PM April 5th. See more of Zahava’s work on her website www.healing-power-of-art.org/zahava-sherez/

Ruth Tabancay will have works in Feast Your Eyes, curated by Carolyn Tillie, at Root Division, San Francisco, CA, with reception 7-9 PM Saturday April 13, 2019. Ruth's work appears in Tillie's book, Feast for the Eyes: Edible Art from Apples to Zucchini, to be published June, 2019. (Image below: “Colony,” 2012,  34” x 38” x 2” assemblage, tea bags, glue.)

Joseph Slusky's small sculptures will be exhibited at 505 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, CA, from March 13 through May 22, 2019. Included will be Joseph's "Tensegrity" (image below, 1972, 15”H x 13”L x 10”W, steel, plastic filler, acrylic lacquer).

Joe Bologna has three LED-impregnated pieces, including "Urn-y Bird" (image below), in the Currency exhibition at the Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery's JPG@TheBank pop-up gallery in Lafayette, CA. The gallery is open through June 2019 from Wed.-Sunday, 12-6 PM. 

Emil Yanos has three pieces in the New Currencies exhibition at the Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery's JPG@TheBank pop-up gallery in Lafayette, CA, including "Column VII" (image below), "Column V" and “Bailamos" (not shown). 

Emil also has works in the exhibition Off Center, and works including "Scorched" (image below) in the exhibition Ceramic Wallworks.  Both exhibitions are from April 5 - June 1, 2019 at Blue Line Arts, Roseville, CA.
