From the President

Hi Everyone!

I hope 2024 is a healthy and happy year for you, despite the challenges in the world. We, artists, have a way of finding inspiration in the every day and refreshing our point of view.

We are proud about the two PRS member exhibitions that opened in Santa Rosa and Santa Cruz. Be sure to check them out!

To our new and existing members-  please consider joining the amazing group of member volunteers in the stellar communications committee who organize our newsletter. OR - help the amazing exhibitions committee continue to find and organize exhibitions. Many hands make little work - and working with artists is joyful work.

I look forward to seeing you in the gallery or a studio soon!

Exhibitions is delighted to announce 46 artists out of 79 were selected to showcase their artwork in "A Question of Balance" at the Museum of Sonoma County (MSC). Please celebrate PRS and attend the reception, 5-7 pm, Saturday, January 27. The museum will offer free entry and kick off Lunar New Year with a special program, 1-3 pm. MSC is located at 425 Seventh Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95401. Next up "She/They: Pacific Rim Sculptors"! This exhibition showcases a wide range of art by 27 contemporary sculptors who identify as women, including non-binary and transgender artists working in various sculpture media. These artists present a variety of themes, approaches, traditional and innovative techniques at Santa Cruz Art League.

Reception: First Friday, February 2, 6-8pm.

Artist Talk: February 10, 2024, Saturday, 1:30 – 3:00 pm.

Mary Curtis Ratcliff

Mary Curtis Ratcliff is in the exhibition COUPLET PAIR REBUS: The Principle of Cause and Effect in Art at the University Museum and Art Gallery located in the University of Hong Kong. This exhibition explores the interplay of causality in art in multiple ways. From poem to poem, COUPLET presents itself as a place for reading, as a space of resonances. PAIR is dedicated to balance and symmetry. Here, pairs of artworks form a three-dimensional equilibrium. REBUS presents itself as a space of associations, forming a network of content-related references.

Susannah Israel is delighted to announce Fahrenheit 2024 at the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA). This exhibition originally, launched in 2018, has received overwhelming responses. AMOCA continues to feature artists contributing to the contemporary ceramic arts.

Kristen Lindseth

Kristin Lindseth was in an invitation-only curated exhibition Facing Home at the Euphrat Museum of Art in Cupertino, CA.  This exhibition explores the who, what and where that gives us a sense of home or refuge and honors the passing of loved ones central to the concept of home. The show was built around the mythical town San Ardo which I created in the wake of the Lightning strike fires of August 2020. The buildings are wood multimedia with lights and sound. Also included are works byTessie Barrera, Edith Argabrite, Nimah Gobir, Lydia Sanchez and RoxanaVega. The exhibition ran from November 1, 2023 to1 December 27, 2023

Marguerite Elliot

Marguerite Elliot is in the online exhibition Kinship With Birds in Flight and Plight juried by Jane Kim. This curation of works highlights the challenges facing birds, and either celebrates conservation successes or signals the need for urgent interventions. The exhibition is on view from October 15 ,2023-February 29,2024.

Additionally, three sculptures from Marguerite Elliot’s Sentinels: Protectors of Wild and Beautiful Places are installed in Holden Garden on the Pitzer College campus from Augusts 28, 2023 – May 17, 2024. This series gestures to the precarious interface between technology and the environment. Inspired by yet distinct from the ubiquitous cell phone towers that populate our contemporary landscape, Elliot’s sculptures stand watch as they broadcast a warning of the climate crisis.

Rene Dayan Whitehead

Rene Dayan Whitehead was selected to participate in the group show Illuminating Perspectives: Exploring Light in Innovative Art  at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts in Sebastopol, CA. This exhibition, juried by Georgie Friedman, is a art exhibition dedicated to pushing the boundaries of artistic interpretation and challenging conventional notions of light across various mediums - painting, drawing, video, digital, film, projection, photography, sculptural and experiential.

Jane Grimm

Jane Grimm has a solo show of ceramic sculptures entitled Convergence at The Drawing Room, 210 Clement Street, San Francisco. The ceramic sculpture is a selection of work made between 1996 and 2023. The curator is Renee DeCarlo. The show runs from January 19-February 18. Gallery Hours, Wednesday-Sunday, 11-7. Artist Talk and Opening Reception to be announced.

  • A call for news items goes out the 15th of each month. 
  • Help build the PRS network that allows sculptors to connect with each other; Invite your sculptor colleagues to join!
  • PRS is a volunteer-run 501(c)3 non-profit organization; to report your donation for tax purposes: EIN # 81-0919806.
  • Join the PRS google group so you can send and receive messages from other members:  Email info@pacificrimsculptors.org to request to join. We will add you to the list. You will then receive messages sent to our group email list (pacificrimsculptors@googlegroups.com ). A moderator screens for spam to ensure appropriate use. As a member of the group you can easily send announcements or questions to the group. 
  • Sign up for the PRS Facebook page by visiting this link and clicking on the "Join Group" button. A PRS moderator will authorize your request, usually within 1-2 workdays. Then start posting!

Members of Pacific Rim Sculptors receive a 20% discount when joining the International Sculpture Center, publishers of Sculpture magazine (ISC, www.sculpture.org).
